Today in the morning we laid the roof top level ring beams on top of the ferrocement channels. These roof-top level ring beams bind the channels of the roof from above while the roof level ring beams do the same from below, for earthquake safety. But before laying the ring beam we laid a plastic pipe in each channel valley, to ensure outlet for the rain waters.

By afternoon we built the parapet walls, laying the last three courses of blocks in the building. With this we finished a total of 40 courses of blocks which includes five RCC ring beams, above the foundation ring beam. On top of the parapet we put the coping blocks which are produced in the same machine and protect the walls from rain water.

Meanwhile inside the room some masons were doing a tedious and time consuming job of plastering the bottom joints of the ferrocement channels, while others gave finishing touches to the wheelchair ramp.

I am sorry for the last two days there has been no electricity in this district, during which not only my laptop battery but the back up power in the house also ran out. I have had to do many circuses, to be able to send the material for this website. Due to this and various other things happening the diary might be reaching you late. But I hope to catch up soon.

Tomorrow will be a big day.

Tip for today:

A picture speaks more than a thousand words. So today's tip is a graphic that shows all the courses in a typical wall of this building. You can see that it has a total of 40 courses of blocks; 37 above floor level and three below. Each course of blocks is 10 cm high. You can also see all the five ring beams cast in U-blocks at different levels, as also the foundation beam.
