A Fair for Peace

On November 21st and 22nd MS took part in carrying out a peace fair. The fair was organized to build stronger networks between NGOs, Government agencies, academics and students.

The fair that was organised jointly  by Conflict, Peace & Development Studies Center (CPDS) – Tribhuvan University, Association of International NGOs in Nepal (AIN), Ministry of Peace & Reconstruction (MoPR) – Nepal Government, in order to build stronger networks between actors committed to work for a culture of peace and justice. The occasion that was launched on the 21st of November,  to celebrate the signing of the national peace agreement exactly two years earlier.

 

The fair was ment to act as a show case of the various activities on peace building and conflict transformation and it concluded with the agreement that the 21st of November should be celebrated as a National Peace Day.

"fighting between Neighbours or community members or between brother and sisters will ultimately results in a 'loose- loose situation'" was the theme of a street theatre drama played at the fair.

The play was also saying that when a person was abducted by perpetrators the community members did not help to the victims and that as the scale of abduction went up everybody were made victims later on - that is: We need to demonstrate our solidarity towards peace and human rights.

MS had a stall at the fair, which was visited by more than 10000 people, among others university students, who were briefed by MS staff member Ram Thapa. Youth is considered to have a very crucial role in peace building.

It is very important for peace building process to listen to the victims. A child victim of the conflict who was invited as a guest for the inauguration of the fair- delivered his opening remarks and feelings.

 “What does peace mean to me?” was the theme of the above banner displayed at the fair. The banner that was arranged by AIN, was created during the International peace day in September.
