:: The Comprehensive Peace Agreement (pdf, 1 MB)
The Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between the Government of the Republic of the Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army was signed in January 2005. It forms the basis for the peace process.

The Local Government Act, 2009 sets the framework for the decentralisation of the Government of Southern Sudan to ensure good governance and democratic participation. The objectives of the act is to establish local governments in Southern Sudan and specify the powers, functions and duties of these governments.

:: Guide to the Legal Framework for the Southern Sudan State Constitutions (pdf, 309 KB)
The guide is developed to support the states of Southern Sudan when they develop their own state constitutions. The aim of the document is to make sure that each state constitution is compatible with both the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan, the Interim National Constitution and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

The Southern Sudan Referendum Act sets the framework for the referendum scheduled for January 2011. The referendum will determine whether Sudan remains united or Southern Sudan secedes.
