Farewell
A job well done
Development and information worker Karsten Peier left Uganda by the end of July and headed for Denmark together with his Ugandan wife, Candida Akello.
Karsten Peier came to Uganda in 2001 to work in Gulu with Diocese of Northern Uganda’s information unit. After less than a year he was shifted to Kampala, where he worked partly with Anti Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) and partly with the country office.
The tall Dane’s well-attended farewell reception told the story of Karsten Peier’s stay in Uganda: ‘Thank you’ and ‘We will miss you’ were the most frequently used words. Many of the ‘thank yous’ referred to the hard and persistent work Karsten Peier has put into supporting ACCU in the organisation’s development at large and especially with regard to its advocacy work. Not least the annual anti corruption week has over the last couple of years developed into a strong advocacy campaign. The 2003 campaign boosted ‘Access to information’ and it looks as if the efforts are now showing impact: A bill on public access to information has been tabled in parliament.
Regarding the many ‘we will miss yous’: Well, Karsten was and is a friend to many persons in the MS Uganda circle, and we do miss him. (mr)
