Four organisations join the MS Uganda circle
Human rights, community and sustainable development strengthened through the new co-operations
Next time you travel to a meeting or a workshop arranged by MS Uganda you might very well meet new faces. Four organisations have recently entered into co-operation with MS.
The Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) is the focal point of the Uganda NGO Coalition for Sustainable Development (UNCSD). The roots are found in the Rio+10 collaboration, and the aim of the co-operation with MS Uganda is to increase public participation and civil society network’s influence on national, regional and international implementation of the Johannesburg Plan for sustainable development. Short-term development worker Anja Terkelsen arrives April 26th and will be working with ARCOS for three months.
Development at community level is the focus of Community Development Resource Network (CDRN). The organisation has three main areas of work: Research and advocacy for civil society’s activities for poverty reduction, capacity building of community based organisations, and training and capacity building for NGOs and CBOs. Short-term advisor Christina Nilsson has recently started working with CDRN and will stay for nine months.
The third of the new organisations is Sudan Human Rights Association (SHRA). Among SHRA’s main activities are regular field assessments of the human rights situation in refugee settlements in Uganda and human rights training of refugees in order to enable them to protect their rights. Development worker Maja Halleen Graae works with SHRA. (mr)
