Vijana Vision Tanzania
![]() |
Vijana Vision Tanzania (VVT) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2000 that aims to build youth participation in development in Tanzania, with a particular emphasis on environmental issues and sustainable development. It also works in community-based natural resource management, having established a network of four villages surrounding the Kisarawe natural forest that regulates the use of forest resources.

MSTZAADK’s partnership with VVT is based around activities in the nine villages of Maruai Mipera, Marui Ngawata, Mtunani, Titu, Yombo Lukinga, Muhaga, Zegelo, Malumbo and Mtakayo, all in the Kisarawe district.
The partnership focuses on ensuring that ordinary women and men in 10 villages in Kisarawe district have secure and sustainable access to forest resources. While in poor communities agriculture remains the most important source of household income, these forest resources make a significant contribution, supporting the livelihoods of up to 87% of the rural poor. Through Participatory Forest Management (PFM), it is hoped that corruption, land grabbing and illegal natural resource harvesting will decrease, and that the rural poor will be able to gain greater access to and benefit from their forests.
The partnership aims to establish PFM in these ten villages and to empower residents through developing Village Land Use Plans (designating village forest land), Forestry Management Plans and establishing Village Natural Resources Committees in these villages. The project will also help to ensure that these are fully functional institutions through activities such as community mobilisation and training. Furthermore, MSTZAADK contributes to VVT’s organisational and personnel costs.
