Teachers' Resource Centre Coalition
![]() |
The Coalition of Teacher’s Resource Centres (TRCC) is a democratic umbrella organisation representing the interests of 410 local Teachers’ Resource Centres (TRCs) in Tanzania. TRCC’s focus is on supporting the academic and professional development of teachers and, in doing so, the quality of education in schools across Tanzania. It aims to empower TRCs through networking, lobbying and advocacy, and to develop a common resource centre to promote the exchange of information, skills and technology for teachers.

Theme: Building Local Democracy
MSTZAADK has partnered with TRCC since 1995, although its priorities have shifted from service delivery to building local democracy as a means to improve the quality of education in Tanzania. This is because - despite the decentralisation process in Tanzania that has given citizens the legal rights to influence local decision-making - many people remain disempowered or unaware of these rights.
MSTAAADK supports TRCC’s work throughout the Kisarawe, Kilindi, Mbeya Rural and Njombe Districts, areas where people remain particularly vulnerable and incapable of improving their livelihoods as a result of the poor quality of primary education.
This project shall therefore serve to empower ordinary people and teachers to claim their rights to participation and transparency as well as to hold School Committees (SCs) and Local Government Authorities accountable for providing basic quality education.
MSTZAADK support involves capacity-building of SCs; training leaders of TRCs as well as local government leaders; raising awareness among communities on their democratic rights; and administration (financial/technical) support.
By 2012, the partnership aims to ensure that 100 SCs are providing services responding to the needs identified by ordinary women and men.
