Theme: Gender Equality
MDWDA is a district umbrella organization for women's groups in Mansa District in Luapula Province. Women and girls in Zambia are vulnerable due to high levels of poverty, high illiteracy levels and lack of participation in local governance structures.
MDWDA work to promote gender equality and equity in the decision making structures, and to empower the women on all levels in order for them to improve their local livelihoods and contribute to national development. Among other things rural women are given training in areas such as gender related skills, to enable them to change their attitude towards cultural beliefs and norms, training in functional literacy, which has helped the women to participate in decision making, and training in legal education. Furthermore MDWDA is running awareness campaigns for land rights aimed at the broader local communities in Mansa District.
