Theme: Building Local Democracy

In the rural areas of Zambia poverty- ignorance- and illiteracy levels are high, which leaves the population (especially women, children and the elderly) very vulnerable. Often, these vulnerable groups are unaware of their rights and unable to change their circumstances as they are typically excluded from the decision-making process. TRDA wishes to better the conditions for the rural population in Petauke and envisions an improved rural community able to sustain itself through self-help interventions. To reach this goal TRDA are doing various activities in the community such as providing education for children as well as adults in order to fight illiteracy; conduct massive community awareness meetings on youth's- and women's rights, gender issues, land rights, etc.; and finally TRDA facilitates the provision of livehood skills training for youths and women in order to fight unemployment and poverty.
