Nyimba District Farmers' Association (NDFA)

NDFA is a local-based voluntary membership organisation which was formed in 1994 by a group of ten farmers in Mtilizi Re-settlement Scheme in response to declining government support since the nation’s adoption of the liberalized policy in 1991. Nyimba DFA has continued growing in membership at the average rate of 46% annually with matching renewals and new affiliates.

NDFA's mission is to facilitate good governance among farming households for agricultural technological advancement, high productivity and increased well-being in a gender balanced and HIV/AIDS free environment.

NDFA is currently working in all four chiefdoms of Nyimba District. Major work has been centred on land rights promotion, promotion of new agricultural technologies, linking farmers to markets, policy implementation monitoring and good governance promotion within and outside the organisation including monitoring management of public resources.

NDFA is a voluntary membership based organisation which aims to work with any committed farmer. For this project NDFA will work with farmers in Information Centres, Cooperatives, Farmer Groups and Community Resource Boards. This equally involves traditional leaders and ordinary members of the public to a wider extent.

The co-ordination of NDFA's partnership work with other NGOs and collaborating partners in the same developmental area shall be enhanced through established networks and sharing programme activities through collaborating meetings and sharing of information. MS-Zambia for instance is part of the collaborating partners meeting on decentralisation spearheaded by the lead donors in this sector.
