Theme: Building Local Democracy

The vision of SACCORD is a world where there is democracy, justice, peace and human security. The mission of the organisation is to work towards a political environment that promotes justice and peace for sustainable human development.

SACCORD’s work targets policy-makers at national level and any achievements made benefit the wider citizenry.  The project targets community groups, district councils, local, traditional leaders and specific communities.  The primary targets of the project are the marginalised groups in the communities.  The project  targets approximately 1500 men, women and youths. The targeted communities are Nyimba, Mambwe, Petauke and Chipata districts.

The target groups are characterized by the following; they are impoverished; not empowered; poor; they are engaged in informal economic activities; gender imbalances in terms of decision-making and access to opportunities and services; the children, youth and women are severely affected by poverty.

A part of the leadership of the communities has already been involved in previous SACCORD initiatives.  Hence, they will be informing the district planning priorities and projects.  In turn, local leaders and councillors will have a better accountability relationship with the people as the citizens will be able to exercise their rights and demand information.
