Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA)


YWCA was established in Kitwe, Zambia in 1957. From 1957 to date the YWCA has continued to stand at the fore front of social change. Being  one of the oldest women’s organizations, the YWCA has over the many years of  its existence gained considerable experience and has the confidence of the women, youth, children in need and the communities in which YWCA operates from.

YWCA has 27 Branches in 8 provinces with 8 Regional offices in Chipata, Kabwe, Kasama, Kitwe, Livingstone, Lusaka, Mongu and Solwezi. However, only Kabwe, Kasama, Kitwe, Lusaka and Mongu regional offices are fully operational with full time staff whilst the Livingstone office is manned by Volunteer staff.

The vision of YWCA is a peaceful and gender sensitive Zambia with opportunities for a better quality of life for all. The YWCA Zambia is a Christian, non partisan , non governmental membership organization dedicated to the empowerment of the community especially women and children to realize their potential as human beings with a view to contribute to a just society.

 

The goals of YWCA is to enhance the quality of life in which health, education, human rights and economic empowerment is promoted for women, youth and children.

 

YWCA has a proven track record in addressing socio – economic issues affecting the community and promoting gender equity and equality through strategies which include advocacy, sensitization, capacity building and community mobilization to name a few.  The organization is well known for its work in addressing issues of women, youth and children by all stakeholders who include government, donor community, civil society organizations and the community.

The overall common objectives for the partnership between YWCA and MS Zambia  aims at reducing poverty in Zambia through the enhancement of socio-political empowerment among the citizens.
