Equatoria Women Association (EWA)



Equatoria Women Association (EWA) was formed in 2003 at a conference attended by about 300 women representatives from Western, Central and Eastern Equatoria States. EWA is an indigenous non-governmental and non-profit making association. The mission of EWA is to “empower the members of EWA to play a central role in governance and development through mobilisation of women to work under one umbrella”.

Objectives

  • Strengthen the unity of Equatorial women in diversity and fully involve them to play a central role in good governance in society
  • Ensure that Equatorial women are properly organised to take up the responsibility of the management of women affairs in the struggle to improve women welfare, the women economy and women emancipation in development to shape their own destiny
  • Empower Equatorial women enterprises to effectively participate in undertaking productive cooperative and business venture of women interest that would ultimately benefit the women individually and as groups in support of their families, in the struggle for their rights and in serving their communities wherever they live
  • Fully support the women grass root establishment to build a strong foundation as a base for women’s causes, fight for women activism and lobby systems that are empowered to champion the women’s causes, fight for enforcement, full participate in ensuring good leadership and justice for all in the New Sudan
