NEESS is an indigenous education based civil society organisation formerly known as New Sudan Students Association (NESSA) that was established in 1999 by few southern Sudanese students who were in exile in Uganda. NEESS’ vision is “a peaceful and transformed society” and its mission is to strive for a better informed society through community empowerment to uphold good governance self-reliance and inter-cultural cooperation.

NEESS’ vision is “a peaceful and transformed society” and its mission is to strive for a better informed society through community empowerment to uphold good governance self-reliance and inter-cultural cooperation.
Objectives
- Encourage, support and strengthen voluntarism by involving youth in promoting community based developmental projects aimed at poverty alleviation and self-reliance
- Promote unity and peace through sports, national conferences, cultural exchanges, capacity building and other support to enhance intercultural cooperation
- Support and fight poverty among youths in their communities through income generating activities and training in business management skills aiming at rehabilitate communities, mobilise resources and mitigate poverty
- Advocate and lobby for observance of rule of law, good governance and human rights which is geared towards envisaging a democratic society where justice and freedom at all levels are granted for the citizens
- Empower women and marginalize groups to activities and lobby for equal representation at all levels of government and leadership
- Help in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other related epidemics among youths and especially adolescent girls
- Advocate for sustainable and wise use of the environment
