ACUDES - Cultural Association for Sustainable Development


ACUDES came into being in August 2003 as a group of young activists from Inhambane Province, who promote debates on various issues of interest to young people and take the initiative to implement cultural and recreational activities.

Theme: Building Local Democracy

On the 16th of April 2004, by way of Dispatch no. 286/GGPI/2004, ACUDES was recognised as an apolitical, Non-Governmental organisation, an independent legal entity with administrative and financial autonomy.

Vision:
To increase the level of awareness among community members, in particular young people, about human rights, moral education, local and national traditional values, ecological conscience, reproductive and sexual health, gender issues, prevention of sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, and especially the situation of young sero-positives.

Mission:
To develop young people’s skills and abilities to promote critical reflection on and active involvement in problems and needs, which affect the communities and, in particular, young people, with the aim to eradicate poverty and promote sustainable development.

Main activities

  • Mobilisation and to creation of civil councils that integrate all the interest-groups, in particular the most vulnerable groups.
  • The development of plans for advocacy and carrying out advocacy campaigns based on the interests of the most vulnerable groups.
  • Increasing, through civic education campaigns, the level of knowledge among individual citizens and local groups about local democracy principles.

Target Group:

  • Direct: Young people’s and women’s organisations and other vulnerable groups.
Indirect: District and administrative post authorities, and other groups that are not represented (children, the elderly, etc.).
