A New Mission for MS

MS needs a new mission statement to guide and focus its work in the coming years. During the MS-Zambia Annual Meeting partners worked out suggestions for this, which will be discussed by the MS-Board in Denmark.

The MS Board in Denmark has decided that there is a need to develop a new mission statement for MS.

This decision was taken in the light of the many changes MS has undergone in the past two years due to limited resources.

“The point with a new mission statement is to establish clear and focused priorities,” explained Majken Lassen, MS Board member at the Annual Meeting.

The current mission statement is 60 years old.

“We need to be better at nurturing and enhancing our common understanding of what binds MS together, what unites us and what inspires us and motivates our actions,” said the MS General Secretary, Mr. Lars Udsholt, in a letter distributed to all participants at the Annual Meeting.

Suggestions

The participants were then asked to discuss how to extent the mission of MS-Zambia to reflect a mission for the whole of MS.

Global link

Ms. Majken Lassen was very pleased and impressed by the suggestions.

“I think it is very encouraging to see that all the suggestions have a global link,” she said.

“It will be easier now to develop a mission statement with all these suggestions. It has been difficult to focus the activities without a mission statement and it was really difficult to tell which activity would be a priority because they all seemed important,” she said.

The suggestions from the MS-Zambia Annual Meeting and the Annual Meetings in the other MS programmes will be discussed at a board meeting in March and finally a suggestion will be presented for discussion and eventually adoption at the MS General Assembly 24th-25th April 2004.
