“Gender is one of the cross-cutting issues in the MS-Zambia Policy Paper 2002-2006. However, when you check what is happening on the ground among our partners not very much is happening. Very few women are in the executive bodies and it is mainly men, who participate in the meetings,” explains MS-Zambia Programme Officer Mr. Malekiado Phiri.
Focus on Gender
Gender was identified as a burning issue by the MS-Zambia Policy Advisory Board. PAB therefore decided that gender should be the overall theme for the MS-Zambia Annual Meeting 2004. The Country Office welcomed this decision.

“The hope is that by focussing on gender at this AM we will reverse the gender imbalance thereby inspiring and encouraging our partners to take it seriously,” he added.
Programme Officer Ms. Milimo Mwiba explained that the Annual Meeting should not only result in a lot of talking about gender: “We want our partners to identify the negative impact that lack of gender has on poverty eradication. Secondly when we leave the Annual Meeting all partners should have made a plan of action, which outlines the practical steps they will take in the coming year towards improving the gender balance in their organisations,” she said.
