Danish peace flowers to the German people
Members of the Danish NGO Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke deliver flowers of sympathy to Kansler Schröder.
Today a bouquet of flowers, sponsored by members of the Danish NGO Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, will be delivered to the German Kansler Gerhard Schröder in Berlin. The bouquet is a demonstration of support to the German resistance to an invasion of Iraq. MS hereby hopes to assure him that the Germans are not alone in their opposition to war.
The support to Schröder and his Government is grounded on the following facts:
- The Germans stand by their scepticism towards the US in a time when many others panicly support the military escalation.
- Together with France, Germany has presented a constructive proposition to a middle course between total passivity and war.
- The Germans keep a polite and friendly dialog in their discussions with the US.
Chairman of Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Bent Nikolajsen, declares:
"We find it important to express a visible and unambiguous support to the resistance to war in Iraq. The Danish NGOs are often criticised for only being in opposition and criticising. It is therefore delightful to have the opportunity to express our support to the German attitude. My impression is that many Danes agree with the German policy, rather than the policy of the Danish Government in the matter of Iraq. MS is of the opinion that Denmark and EU should register their own independent policy towards a more peaceful world - rather than compete for the position of the most loyal and uncritical supporter of the Bush Government.
Another bouquet was last Monday presented to the German ambassador in Denmark, Johannes Dohmes, by Chairman of Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke (MS), Bent Nicolajsen.
