Nepal i krise 2005

Opdatering fra øjenvidne

Sara har via sattelittelefon send en opdatering om situationen i Kathmandu. Hun beder det internationale samfund fordømmme kongens overtagelse og opfordrer til, at al militær støtte til kongen indstilles omgående.

Dear All,

Writing from a friend's office in a diplomatic mission in Ktm, who has kindly allowed us 10 minutes on a highly secure computer. They have VSAT links, still the only way to get news out. I hope that these two lists are still running, but it seems possible that they have been blocked. The phone lines are all still down, it's now been exactly 24 hours.

I just wanted to say one important thing: for those of you who are outside Nepal and can communicate with others, PLEASE contact your policymakers and ask them to protest this move by the King. Also, if you received the INSN letter to US Congress and forwarded it to others, please ask everyone on those contact lists to do the same. Especially for those of you in the US, the time is now -- let Congress know that they can't let this move go unpunished. Military aid should certainly have to be carefully reviewed in light of this new development. Unfortunately there is nearly nothing we can do from here right now until communications are restored -- and we don't know when that will happen.

Thanks for your support, and I'll write again as soon as possible.

Best,
Sara
