MS in Southern Sudan

MS Danish Association for International Co-operation works in Southern Sudan to promote an understanding of democratic values and principles as a foundation for rebuilding the area after 20 years of civil war. An important aim is to strengthen popular participation in the development of the region.
MS Uganda has been active in Southern Sudan since 1999 by supporting the Needs Service Education Agency (NSEA) an NGO based in Koboko in Northern Uganda, operating in Southern Sudan, Sudan Human Rights Association (SHRA) which focus is the rights of the Sudanese refugees and three local CSOs as partners. The three CSO’s are Network for Education Emporwerment (NEESS), Community Education and Action Programme (CEAP), and Mugwo Community Development Forum (MCDF). These partners are receiving financial and technical assistance, including a DW placement.
Further more MS Uganda has co-operated with partners in Uganda and Sudan promoting activities benefiting Sudanese refugees in Uganda and people in Southern Sudan, most prominently the Operation Day’s work education project, which started in 1999. MS was also part of the DASS consortium working in the refugee affected areas in Adjumani.
Following the peace agreement between the Government of Sudan and SPLM, MS Uganda has initiated a three years educational programme; Education for Peace, as part of the Danish Government support to Development Assistance for Refugee programme (DAR), a strategic programme for the Government of Uganda. The programme targets Sudanese refugees and their hosting communities in Northern Uganda as well as the receiving communities in Southern Sudan. The programme was started in July 2005 and will continue until June 2008.
The overall objective of the programme is to contribute to the development of Southern Sudan as a peaceful society through an inclusive democratic process based on non-violent and informed popular debate on political and social affairs inside Southern Sudan and in the refugee affected area of Northern Uganda.
