Let MS move further into northern Uganda

According to Betty Ochan, MS Uganda PAB member more impact of MS work could have been visible in northern Uganda had peace prevailed in this region. However, she suggests that MS should also have partners in the most affected areas.

“I think that MS Uganda has put a lot of effort in poverty reduction and good governance. The challenge is that when we focus on the northern region we find that there are a lot of setbacks. MS Uganda together with her partners can plan but a lot of security interruption takes place.”

“For example in 2002 when the work of MS and its partners was getting better the situation suddenly worsened. MS had to withdraw two Danish development workers DDW, who went back to Kampala and that was a set back on the efforts of reducing poverty in Gulu.” Because when they left, their expertise could not be utilized in Gulu.

Our prayer is that there should be respect for human right and good governance this will help to consolidate the work of MS in poverty reduction.”

“Let me suggest an adjustment to MS’ work in northern Uganda. I would like to see MS move to Kitgum, Pader and Lira because these districts are among the worst affected by Uganda’s 20 year conflict in this region. I believe this will be part of the process where all Ugandans have the freedom to participate in building good governance.
