A Historical Perspective

MS Tanzania ActionAid Denmark (MSTZAADK) has been working in Tanzania since 1963.

In its early years, it was in the form of the Danish Volunteer Service, where Danish volunteers worked mainly with government institutions as gapfillers all over Tanzania.

In 1993 the focus shifted to civil society as the partnership approach was adopted.

In 2001 the programme was downsized by almost half due to decreased funding and became concentrated in the regions around Dar es Salaam.

Since January 2008 MSTZAADK has been implementing a country programme strategy in seven selected districts under the theme 'Building Local Democracy', with two sub-themes on Land Rights and Youth for Development.

In 2009 MS Tanzania changed its name to MS Tanzania ActionAid Denmark as it embarked on the merger process with ActionAid International Tanzania.
