Radio audience survey published today:
03. april 2007
Who listens to the radio?
An audience survey conducted by MS Nepal and partner Radio Lumbini published on Friday the 5th of April shows that a large majority of potential listeners still remain untouched by radio, as the media does not sufficiently represent all language groups. Also the uneducated and labour segments of the population are to a large extent outside the reach of the media.

The survey was conducted with a sample size of 1,529 people from 193 VDC’s in
the districts of Rupandehi, Kapilbastu, Palpa, Gulmi, Arghakanchi,
Nawalparasi and Chitwan. 40 students from Bhairahawa Multiple Campus
collected the data from July to November 2005 with a questionnaire
including 56 questions.
The survey was conducted In order to test the widespread perception that radio is the most popular and suitable media in Nepal in particularly the rural communities due to high levels of illiteracy, the many different local languages, and a radio receiver’s comparatively cheap price.
