Free computers for civil organisations
DENIVA offers computers to member organisations
By Søren JegindøThe Development Network of Indigenous Voluntary Associations, DENIVA, has received 36 second hand computers to be donated to its members. The donation is from a UK based charity organisation, Computers for Charity. In deciding which organisations are to receive the computers, first consideration will be given to organisations working in eastern or northern Uganda with the youth, disabled, street children, and women.
Each computer set will include a screen, mouse, and keyboard. Basic software will be installed before handing the computer over to the organisations that qualify. For more information contact the development worker, Søren Jegindø at sje@deniva.or.ug
“The computers will assist community based organisations to document their daily activities and to store activity information. This will in the long run enhance information technology at grassroot level and be useful in information exchange among civil society organisations,” says Ben Twinomugisha, DENIVA programme assistant.
You can express your interest by writing an application that includes:
Name and address of the organisation. Indicate the district. State the type of work your organisation does for the community and the annual budget. Justify why the organisation needs the computer. The name and contact information of the person that will be responsible for the computer. Write which staff members will have access to the computer and grade their existing Information Communication Technology skills (none, basic, medium or advanced). Describe the facilities at the organisation where the computer will be placed, including source of electricity (generator, power-line, etc).
Expression of interest that lack any of the above information will not be taken into account.
Mark your letter ‘Application for the ICT Empowerment Programme’ and send it to: info@deniva.or.ug or DENIVA, PO Box 11224, Kampala.
