Chipata District farmers’ Association [CDFA] is a membership based independent and democratically organized Non-governmental organization belonging to the farmers of Chipata district. The Association was officially registered and incorporated under the laws of Zambia in 2005 with a mission to ‘Unite, protect and empower members to lobby and advocate for pro-poor policies that promote secure livelihoods, poverty eradication and development. CDFA has a vision of a self-sustaining farming community.
Over the past year, CDFA has been working in partnership with MS Zambia towards empowering the local small scale farming community to demand their rights and become involved in the development of policies that affect their daily lives.
CDFA has decided to address the problem of lack of participation by communities through empowering the local communities themselves with skills, relevant information and knowledge to enable them to effectively participate. This is in response to the past experiences which has shown that the communities have failed to participate because they are not empowered enough but once empowered they will have not only the ability but also the will to engage.
