Open call: Participants for agroecology study trip to Tanzania

Are you a young professional working with food systems and food production?

Are you a young professional working with food systems and food production? Do you share our vision for an agriculture based on agroecological principles as a counter-model to industrialised food production? And do you want to be part of a small group of European young professionals travelling to Tanzania to get new perspectives on agricultural practices and use these learnings to inspire others at home?

As part of the EU-wide project called “Rebooting the Food System: Youth Engagement for Agroecology and Due Diligence”, co-financed by the European Commission, ActionAid Denmark (Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke) is inviting up to ten European participants on a study tour to Tanzania. The study tour is designed to give participants a glimpse into Tanzanian approaches to agroecological practices and food sovereignty through a mix of field trips and classroom activities. The program includes visits to several different local farmers, livestock keepers, plantations, and markets, as well as an introduction to language and culture.

After returning from the study tour, participants are expected to use their learnings to organize at least one, preferably more activities to push the agenda for agroecology and food sovereignty. These activities can be organized individually, in partnership with other participants, or with pre-existing networks, and can take many shapes – what is most important is that participants make a long-term effort to inspire and educate others within agroecology and food sovereignty.

We are looking for participants who:

  • Have a professional, educational, or practical background within agriculture and/or food systems
  • Have knowledge about agroecology and food sovereignty, and are motivated to push this agenda
  • Want to use their learnings from the trip when they return home, e.g. in campaign and advocacy activities, and want to communicate about the trip on e.g. social media
  • Are under 40 years of age (preference will be given to participants under 30 years of age)
  • Reside in one of the nine Reboot partner countries of Denmark, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Italy, or France.

Dates:

  • 14/7 2025: Online preparation session
  • 4/8 - 17/8 2025: Program dates Tanzania (it is possible to move your traveling dates if you want to do self-organized travel before or after the program.)
  • 1/9 2025: Online follow-up session

All dates are mandatory.

Costs:

  • All program-related costs are covered by the program (including flight tickets, program, food, accommodation, transportation on-ground, etc.)
  • It is the participants’ own responsibility to ensure and cover costs of vaccinations, travel insurance, visa, travel to and from the airport in your home country, and other necessary preparations.
  • Bring pocket-money for market visits, eating out, etc.

Location

During the stay, participants will be accommodated at MSTCDC, a conference center that ActionAid Denmark runs in collaboration with ActionAid Tanzania. Expect to share a room with one or more participants. MSTCDC is located in Arusha, by the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.
